Floyd’s Family Begging to Stop Riots but Leftwing Activists Call for More Violence

Minneapolis is currently in a moment of crisis and there is something to be said for allowing cooler heads to prevail. Fortunately, the city has found the proper leadership to turn to right now. While you would think that it would come from the mayor or some other public officials, the directives are actually coming from George Floyd’s own family members.

Courtney Ross, his girlfriend, urged locals to stop looting and burning buildings in his “honor”. She told the media that her boyfriend truly loved his city and that he would be very letdown by the choices that people are currently making. Ross went on to say that he was a gentle giant. He was a man who was all about love and peace.

She is urging people to protest in the proper manner. At the moment, these requests are falling on deaf ears. We wish that the rioters would be willing to listen but this feels like a lost cause. By engaging in this type of violent behavior, the protesters are making it harder to get their true point across. It would be nice if they would stop to listen to what Floyd’s loved ones have to say on the matter.

“Waking up this morning to see Minneapolis on fire would be something that would devastate Floyd,” said Ross, his girlfriend for the past three years and a resident of the city. “He loved the city. He came here [from Houston] and stayed here for the people and the opportunities. … Floyd was a gentle giant. He was about love and about peace.”

Ross said she wants everyone who took to the streets “to know that I understand their frustration. … I want people to protest in a peaceful way.”

Some of Floyd’s relatives echoed Ross’ sentiments Thursday through their attorney, Benjamin Crump, who has represented families left mourning the death of loved ones during police encounters.

“Looting and violence distract from strength of our collective voice,” Crump said in a tweet, followed by another that said, “George Floyd’s family wants peace in #Minneapolis — but knows that Black people want peace in their souls — and until we get #JusticeForFloyd there will be no peace.”

These efforts are certainly gracious. This family is still in the grieving process and they are finding time to address the general public. Of course, these people have every reason to seek revenge. George Floyd was killed under wrongful circumstances. No one would blame them if they wanted to put their civic responsibility on the back burner. Their actions are beyond selfless.

That’s why we hope that people are willing to start listening to what they are saying. They have placed the welfare of the community over their undeniable rage. If everyone was ready to put their personal feelings to the side like this, the city would be in much better shape. If we did not know any better, we would have to assume that the looters are acting out of selfishness.

This man’s death is being discussed in areas that extend well beyond the borders of the Twin Cities. Floyd hails from Houston and the city is angered by what has taken place. Police Chief Art Acevedo was visibly furious about what happened to Floyd. He let the world know that his officers are instructed properly. They are to leave the neck alone, unless they find themselves in a battle for their lives.

Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are coming to the city today and we are sure that these two are going to be ready to serve as a voice of reason. This was sarcasm, in case you couldn’t tell. The National Guard has also been sent to the city. President Trump made the announcement in a tweet this morning. Things are probably going to get a whole lot worse before they have a chance to get better.

Jesse Jackson is going to be holding a press conference because he never misses a chance to get himself on television. We wonder if this visit is about raising his political profile or if he actually cares about what happened to Floyd. While it’s probably a mixture of the two, there is something to be said about the right time and place.

The citizens of Minneapolis are not going to be encouraged by these types of visits. They want justice and they want it yesterday. With any luck, Jackson can come together with local officials to devise a better protest strategy. As for Sharpton, we are not sure what he has planned. His history is a bit more checkered than Jackson’s.

Sharpton is considered to be far more of an opportunist than Jackson. In the meantime, the Floyd family is doing everything in their power to put a stop to the violence before the situation gets any worse. They are going above and beyond to help save their city.
